Real Life Blahs

I feel bad because I haven’t posted a review in two weeks. Honestly, I was afraid it had been even longer than that. SakuraCon just happened last weekend, a big NW anime convention that is pretty important to my side/hobby business, The Otaku Survival Guides. My brain kind of took a hiatus on everything else. Now all I want to do is lay in bed and read manga. Skip Beat and High School Debut are my current favorites.

I’ve got some book reviews in the works though, Dragon Flight, Twice Upon a Marigold, and Ever. I’m also taking a class this quarter that’s more aimed at librarians and teachers, but its on contemporary YA and Children’s books, looking at the current award winners, so I’ve got a lot of reading to do! I can use Princess Academy for one of my books though, as well as The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which I’ve been meaning to read. I can’t tell for certain if that one is fantasy, but it strikes me as at least being a book I’d enjoy. So far, I’m also reading Weedflower by Cynthia Kadohata and The First Part Last by Angela Johnson.

  1. EESH! I haven’t visited your site in a month! (Well, I was on hiatus).
    I finally love manga!
It took me awhile but now I’m hooked. Saw Skip-Beat at the store the other day, looks interesting :-)
My new manga favorites are Absolute Boyfriend, Millenium Snow, and Meru Peri (or is it Meri Peru? I can never remember…*scratches head*)
Anyway, I’m looking foward to see what you review next :-)

Glad to hear it! Manga is wonderful ^_^

… I can’t read Absolute Boyfriend. Yuu Watase has already killed my soul enough times over.

I’d recomend W Juliet, its one of my favorites, and its great for people who love theater or costumes! Mars is the absolute best, most classic shojo highschool drama/romance that I’ve come across. Be sure to check it out.

Millenium Snow is only two volumes long, isn’t it? I think I have it somewhere.. By the same person as Oran Host Club?

Oh, and Pretear is a cute, four volume fairtale meets magical girls book. Basic premis is Snow White if the seven dwarfs were really hot guys.

  2. You seem to like all the same books I do! My recent loves in manga are Kitchen Princess and Millenium Snow. I want to thank you so much for posting on Summers at Castle Auburn. I had read it as a teen and loved it but 5 yrs later could not for the life of me remember the name of the book and had no clue how to find it. I was so excited to see it on your reviews. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Once Upon a Marigold is really sweet, I thoroughly enjoyed it, I hope the 2nd one is just as good. I love Gail Carson Levine, can’t wait for your review of Ever and i’ll definitely be trying to go to one of her Tour stops in Illinois.

I’m glad you enjoy the reviews, especially Summers at Castle Auburn!

I haven’t read Kitchen Princess yet, but I’ve had it recomended to me. At the moment, I’m back on to reading Fullmetal Alchemist. I used to love it, a few years ago, but then I’d read and watched everything that was out at that point, so my interest wained. I should read Millenium Snow soon.

Heh, no problem. Twice Upon a Marigold is in stores now though, so you can get to read it. I found the first one to be cuter though… the first ends so nicely, that as second wasn’t really needed so don’t think its as enjoyable. I haven’t finished it yet, because I keep getting distracted from the story.
