Artemis Fowl: Graphic Novel Sample Pages

Sample pages have now been posted for the Artemis Fowl graphic novel on the main us page. I think I like the style overall - Artemis and Holly aren’t exactly as I pictured, but they do fit well. And I like the colors. The only thing I don’t like so far is Butler. I never pictured him as quite that much of a gorilla. I picture him a bit more like Race Bannon or Brock Sampson - big, tough.. but…. still kind of cute. I don’t know, I don’t think I’ll ever quite like this Butler. But overall, the graphic novel could be really good. I’ll have to see how much it expands on the original - a straight graphic version of the first book would only be so interesting. I am excited to see the rest of the cast though.

Plus, Colfer is working on the sixth book, which should tie up some loose ends and give us more info about some characters, but, sadly, he says it’ll probably be three years after this one before we see another on the shelves. Unfortunatly, with two toddlers playing and bad computer speakers, I can’t really watch/hear Colfer’s new video blog that talks about the sixth book a bit.

Graphic Novel is released on October 2, 2007.

  1. I agree with your comments on Butler.
When I saw the Graphic novel first, I thought ‘Wow. Cool!’
Then I saw how Butler had been depicted. I mean, sure, he’s probably one of the most athletic people alive, but huge, hunched shoulders? Blond hair? Ape-like expression? Butler has BRAINS DARN IT!

Anyhow. Rest of the characters ; fab.

I have no idea what they were thinking with butler’s character design -_- I’d be curious to know what Colfer thought of it.

  2. I thought that Artemis Fowl the Graphic Novel was the next best thing to an Artemis Fowl section of Fanfiction.net. The graphic novel has a better view of holly instead of the first book’s original description. Artemis is a bit, no, TOO small, and Butler seems like the Big Show times two. Mulch is way too hairy (I imagined him as a dirty midget hobo). Angeline Fowl looks motherly, and I wish that they could keep her like that.
