A lot of you may have already seen the various news about a Maximum Ride movie genuinely in the works and a manga being released in January 09 from Yen Press.

Oh, and despite having heard that this was the last book in the Maximum Ride series, apparently amazon has a listing for the next book, Waterwings, coming March 2009. I don’t know if I’ll pick it up or not. This latest book made me so angry. I couldn’t sleep after I read the book, until I typed up the review. Hopefully I’ll have that posted on Saturday. This was the first book that I had to review before sleeping that wasn’t a positive review. Oh sure, some books have been cute and made me giggle so much I had to review it right away. But this one I had to sit down and rant about. Just thinking about Final Ride makes me angry all over again.

Okay, you can see that rant later. I’m talking about the movie and manga right now. I loved the first book, so I have hopes that both mediums are sticking to the first book and that I’ll enjoy them. Specifically, I can’t wait to see some visuals and what exactly the flock and their wings look like (other than telling us Max’s wing span ten times a book and far too many details about her feathers, I don’t feel like Patterson really likes to describe things).

I had a point here really. And that was that I find it interesting that the movie studios are pulling this out to hit the YA superhero movie goers. First off, I don’t really think of Maximum Ride as a superhero book. I mean, I guess it is, but then in a lot of ways so is Harry Potter. “According to Variety Arad is hoping that Maximum Ride can become a new superhero franchise since the teen heroes have plenty of the requisite “elements of alienation and angst that resonate in those spandex-clad heroes.” (ICv2) Unfortunately, I’m afraid they’ll play up the eco-warrior aspects of the books even more than Final Warning did, so that they can try to get both Batman’s audience AND Al Gores.
