The Salamander Spell

I really loved the Frog Princess Tales.  I was surprised when the newest books came out, No Place for Magic (see my review), because the previous book didn’t really need a sequel. Still, it was an enjoyable and fun book like the rest had been. Now, we’ve got a new book coming out (that again I didn’t know about until a few days ago) next week that is a prequel, about Emma’s aunt Grassina. If I remember correctly, the third book touched loosely on the events that this book is going to deal with, but Grassina did always strike me as a fun and interesting character.

Publishers Weekly has a great article about the series and author E. D. Baker’s future writing plans. (Including a bit about the next book in the Frog Princess Tales, about the next generation.)

So next week, I’ll probably have to break my “no hardcovers” rule and get the Salamander Spell. Hmmm… I think I’ll be visiting my parents then, so maybe I can manage to slip the book into the family pile at B&N ^_^.  I’m evil and devious (and also seeing the new Young Frankenstein musical ^____^).

  1. I’ve only read the first three (Frog Princess, Dragon Breath, Once Upon a Curse) — and I thought that they were the only ones! I had recently found out there were more… and I wish I had known before. Ah well, I’ll have to wait to read the rest of them later, when I have the chance to get them :D

  2. No Place For Magic is pretty cute - get to see Eadric’s family who, of course, hate magic.

You know, you’re just making me wanna take pity on you, ask for your address, and send you boxes of books ^_^

  3. It’s all right… well, who am I kidding? It’s sort of horrible right now, with hardly any books to read (new books). But in the long run, I’ll be able to indulge myself selfishly, raiding the libraries, and hogging the computer, buying all the books I lay eyes on on Amazon.com!! Muhahaha. OK, done with the evilness of book hogging. I still have to wait a few years…

  4. Did you move over there with family?

Hopefully the libraries have a decent American/english language book selection.

  5. Ya, I did. And, well, I don’t think there are libraries here (that I know of). There’s the school library, and there’s this one book store in this one store that I got a book from. I don’t think they have much there, though.

  6. You guys, im really confused! i just read the 3 first books and then the descriptions of the 4 and 5th but why does it go on with grassinas story in the past? what about emma and eadric and those guys!!!???? please tell me wat happened to them! thanks

  7. Basicly, number 4 is about Emma and Eadric’s wedding and then number 5 goes back in time to talk about Grassina. There will be a book six in the future that deals with Emma and Eadric agian, probably out next year.

Now that I think about it, maybe I’ll see if I can get ahold of the author to ask her to clarify about the next book. Sounds like its about Emma and Eadric’s child though.

  8. yay thank u soooooooooooo much thats been bugging 4 a while!!! wow i cant wait 2 hear bout grassinas childhood, the wedding and e and es kid!!!
